There are many brokers/advisors/consultants in the industry of financial services that purport to offer advice. Out of nearly
100 000 registered representatives licensed with the Financial Services Board, only around 4 600 of these are CFP® professionals. With regulatory landscape surrounding financial matters constantly shifting and at a time of global financial turmoil, seeking out an expert to navigate you through these uncertain times is vital.
The CFP® designation is internationally recognised as the benchmark for professional advice. Holders of this designation have met stringent qualification and competency requirements as well as abide by unequivocal ethical standards. This means that you'll have peace of mind regarding the technical accuracy of the advice and also the integrity that underpins it.
Certification Requirements: Examination: CFP® Professionals must successfully complete a comprehensive board certification examination, at Postgraduate level, testing individual knowledge. on various aspects of financial planning.
Ethics: CFP® Professionals must voluntarily ascribe to FPI's Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility and additional requirements as mandated. CFP® practitioners who violate the code can be disciplined, including permanent loss of the right to use the CFP® designation.
Education: CFP® Professionals must have obtained a B.Com Honours in Financial Planning or a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning at one of the approved higher education institutions.
Experience: CFP® Professionals must gain at least three years of financial planning-related experience before receiving the right to use the CFP® certification mark. All designated financial planning professionals must complete 65 hours of continuous professional development per two year cycle to stay current in financial planning knowledge, including ethics. Compliance in these four areas ensures you that an individual who holds the CFP® designation is well prepared and qualified to give sound, professional advice. Adapted:
